Processing Guidelines

1

Pre-Slaughter

Feed must be withdrawn from all poultry to be processed. However, allow your poultry access to water until you catch them for transport.

Pastured poultry must be removed from pasture no less than 24 hours before slaughter. Remove access to feed no less than 12 hours before slaughter.

We recommend that you catch your birds after dark, which minimizes the stress caused during capture.

2

Transportation

Brummel Poultry Processing expects all poultry to be transported in a clean, humane manner, preferably inside dedicated crates. We also allow the use of livestock trailers but will require you to help unload the birds into crates.

If additional containers are necessary, please let us know in advance so that we can have them available to you for rent. Please do not overcrowd creates or trailers; make sure your birds have adequate ventilation and protection from wind exposure.

Heat stress and crowding can kill poultry during transit!

3

At The Plant

At the scheduled drop-off or pick-up time, our personnel will meet you in the loading area of our processing plant.

Please come to the front office to pay for processing and pick up your order.

We require clean clothing and footwear in both the office and loading area. We suggest you bring coolers to transport the finished product; we have ice for sale to keep your product chilled during the return trip.

faqs

Can I come to you from another state?

Yes! being a U.S.D.A. plant, our customers get to rest easy knowing there birds can sell and ship across state lines.

Do you process waterfowl?

We have started to process Waterfowl we ask that you do your research and figure out when your birds are going to molt as that is the best time to have them processed.

When can I drop off/pick up my birds?

Drop-off is between 6:30 and 7 on the morning of your scheduled appointment. Pick up is between 4 and 5 of that afternoon or 6:30 to 7 on the morning after your appointment.
